How many people fit? A quick guide
These are general guidelines. Chair size, arm rests and table legs all change how many people fit comfortably.
- 2 people: a small round or square table, about 30 to 36 inches.
- 4 people: a round table about 36 to 44 inches, or a rectangle about 44 to 48 inches long.
- 6 people: a rectangle about 55 to 72 inches long.
- 8 people: a rectangle about 80 inches or longer.

How much room you need
To work out the room size you need, add the clearance on every side to the table size. With about 36 inches on each side:
- Room width = table width + 72 inches
- Room length = table length + 72 inches
For example, a 55" x 32" table needs about 127" x 104" of space (roughly 10.5 by 8.5 feet). If a side of the table sits against a wall or a bench, you can reduce the clearance on that side. If it's a main walkway, many people leave a little more.
